Trucking: Maximum vehicle hieght, truckers atlas, traffic signals

Question
I am converting a old school bus into an RV. I plan on raising the roof but I am having trouble finding out exactly how tall I can make it.  What is the legal maximum vehicle hieght for travel on US roads?  If I approach the legal limit what are the major problems I am going to face as far as clearence goes?  At the max hieght will my vehicle clear all powerline, traffic signals, and unmarked bridges??
               Thanks for your help!

Answer
The highest you want to go is 13 feet, 6 inches.
That is the standard height of big trucks. You shouldn't run into any clearance problems, as far as traffic lights and power lines go. Most bridges on most federal and state routes are high enough for 13' 6 to clear with no problems.
However, when not on an interstate, watch for clearance signs on bridges anyway. They are ALL (supposed) to be clearly marked, especially the lower ones.
Be careful of power lines, tree limbs canopy ownings etc. on provate property, i.e. camp grounds, gas stations.
If you go to a truckstop and find a "truckers" atlas, they usually have listings of low clearances on all 50 states, as well as other neat stuffto help you plan ahead for your trip.   Good luck!
