Truck Repair: ERF EC10, operational components, brainbox

Question
I have an ERF EC10 tipper 1999 in Nigeria it has been converted, but it has developed a number of problems. I have been told that the engine works but it has problems with the brainbox.  I have been advised to convert the truck from automatic to manual I am very unsure about this, but I don't know what to do. Please advice me.

Answer
Hi Kemi,
What conversion did you carry out on the tipper?. I need to know. Problems with engine managed electronically is that there is hardly any facility available to carry out repairs on them presently in Nigeria.

If you have to convert the engine to manual, I will rather advise that you purchase a "Tokunbo" manual engine e.g. LT 10 manual that is compatible instead of converting the old engine as this will entail replacement of certain operational components which may not function optimally at the end of the day.

I believe it is possible to get the above engine locally in Nigeria. You can ask your repair person to check Berger, old Ojo road, off Oshodi Apapa Expway or Ilasamaja on the same express.
Better still, you can send the engine serial No of your  tipper to Cummins office nearest to you for further assistance.
