Truck Repair: new oil pump or what?, oil pressure gauge, oil pressure loss

Question
i have a 83 ford f150 that losses oil pressure after the motor is warmed up but when i put a load on the motor i get oil pressure back and then when i take the load off i loss oil pressure again?

Answer
Joshua,
It is likely that oil pressure loss at warm up is due to problem with oil pressure regulator valve located either on the oil pump or the oil filter head assy, or a malfuntioning oil cooler occassioned by cooling system overheating. You have to be sure your oil pressure gauge is fiunctioning ok and not giving you wrong info. If so, replace with new one.
I will advise you take the following steps>
1. check your oil viscosity for thinning or contamination
2. If your engine is already due for service, then do it.
3. Run your engine afterwards, if ok, then ok. If not ok, continue with the folowing:
4. Ensure that your cooling system is ok, check water pump drive belts, water in radiator, clogged radiator e.t.c.
5. Remove the oil filter head ans service
6. Take out the oil cooler, clean and pressure test.

I hope any or all of the above can give you a solution you desire.

Regards,
