Truck Repair: u joints for a95 Z71 4x4, tranfer case, drive shaft

Question
Hope you can help, I need to remove the old u joints off the drive shaft from the tranfer case to the front wheels and can't seem to get them off. i looked for the clips like the rear shaft but there aren't any can you help?

Answer
Hello David,
The orriginal joints had welted plastic forced in through some holes in the yoke, and into a groove inside the yoke and caps.
An experienced mechanic will knock the caps out, or press them out, which shears the plastic off. Then clean it all out of the grooves, and use the "C" clips to retain the new caps.

I have heard of some people melting it out with a torch, but I have never done that.

Those double joints, where there are two real close together in the flange that bolts to the transfer case, are a real pain. There is also a pivot ball kit for there.
A machine shop can do that for you pretty reasonably.
