Truck Repair: 2001 gmc Sierra DONT LAUGH!!!, gmc sierra c3, daytime running lights

2001 GMC Sierra C3 6.0 all wheel drive.  i arrived at work this morning, i was on the cell phone and got out of the truck forgetting to turn off the ignition. 11 hours later when i returned to my vehicle i noticed the daytime running lights were on and i quickly realized what had happened. the battery was not dead the engine turned over easily, it was simply out of fuel. I added 7 gallons and tried to start the engine but all it did was crank.i noticed that even after i had added fuel the gage still read well below empty as if no signal was coming from the sender. when i crawled under to listen to the fuel pump i heard and felt nothing. fuses are fine, any suggestions other than tying keys to my nose?

Sorry this is a day late. I immagine it has started by now.
If not, smack the bottom center of the tank just as someone turns the key to run.
You can check at the fuel pump fuse for power. Even if the fuse is fine, there is a fusible link in that circuit that may have blown.
