Truck Repair: injector pump timing, gear shaft, pop gear

Question
I need detailed instructions on how to time up injector pumpon '97 dodge 1-tonwith 5.9 liter cummings(12 valve). I't is hard but wiil crank; runs rough . Think I am maybe 1 or 2 teeth off time. How do I check/ fix.

Answer
First thing is to get the fuel pump nut loose.Next find TDC #1 by turning the engine with a ratchet & 15MM socket until the timing pin pops into the camshaft gear(Timing pin is located between fuel pump & p/s pump on the rear of the gear housing).Mark the dampner with white out & somewhere on the frt cover to line it up.Take a 15/16 wrench & take the timing pin cover off the side of the fuel pump.Probably will need a mirror to see the locating pin in the pump.IMPORTANT!!!Take the engine timing pin back out of the cam gear.Turn engine until you see the fuel pump timing pin locator.Install fuel pump timing pin & pop gear loose.Turn engine to TDC #1 again.Clean gear & shaft with fast dissolving brake cleaner or contact cleaner. You don't want any oil on gear or shaft.Torque fuel pump gear nut to 106 InLBS.Take both timing pins out & then torque gear to 145-150 FtLbs.
