Truck Repair: 1998 dodge 24 valve cummings wont start, water contaminants, prime system

Question
I just purchased a used 98 ram cummings diesel. I left out over a pint of fuel at the fuel separator outlet, then tried to start the engine it started and ran for a few seconds and shut down. After several attempts to restart the engine will not start,I would crank the starter for about 30 seconds then wait 5 minutes or longer then try again, also left the key on the on position until I heard the fuel transfer pump shut off,Iwas told afterwards only to leave out a few tablespoons of fuel at the separator. Any suggestions , Thankyou

Answer
They are a bugger to get the air out of the system, just turn key on & "bump" the starter every 30 secs for 3 or 4 times to prime system. Then try to start it.If that does not get it loosen an injector line slightly & get some one to spin it over until fuel comes out & tighten line.
Next time just drain a small portion out just to get water & contaminants out & when it start hold throttle down a little.
