Truck Repair: 1995 Chevy Silverado, coolant temperature sensor, maf sensor

Question
My father owns the truck listed in the memo.  Here is his problem and I am going to try to translate it best I can as he does not have internet. The truck when he first starts it up the RPMs go to 500.  While driving, the engine revs up with no pressure to the gas pedal.  It also surges forward while in drive.  Here is some more information on it - it is a 6.50  Turbo, V-8 engine, 4 wheel-drive and an automatic.  He said his mechanic says it is not the idle nor is the gas pedal.  So, I am checking online for other possible answers as no one and even Chevy mechanics say they do not know what it is caused from.

Thank you,

Answer
That 6.5 Turbo, V8....does that happen to be a 6.5 Turbo DIESEL?

If so, do a Google search for FSD cooler.

There was also a 10 year, unlimited miles recall campaign on the injector pump, but I immagine that has expired.
Wouldn't hurt to ask, if you have a friendly dealer service manager.

Now, if it isn't a diesel, there is the possibility a bad coolant temperature sensor, or a bad MAF sensor could cause an idle control problem.

Read these. One is a Ford topic, but they work the same.
