Truck Repair: ntc350 cummins, good shape, peterbilt

Question
I am in the process of purchashing a 1973 peterbilt with a ntc 350 that is getting water in the oil. the guy selling it says it has a bad liner. is this true and if so is it something that can be repaired? i mean as far as getting  a kit to rebuild it. the truck is cheap and in fairly good shape for the age. any advice would be greatly appreciated. as well as any info as too where i could get a kit for that engine. thanks ....woody

Answer
They sell overhaul kits that have liners, pistons, rings, gaskets,& liner packings. Some kits have all that & the bearings too.Another source is the oil cooler but they ususally get oil in coolant & coolant in oil.If the liner is bad then they were not keeping the DCA up in the coolant. The DCA will prevent electrolisis from pitting the liners.Make sure you have it checked at every oil change.
