Truck Repair: cooling-gasket, coolant level, chevy pickup

Question
I have a 92 chevy pickup 1500 with a 305.  I've had constant overheating problems.  I was told the gasket was sticking.  I had it changed about 6 months ago.  It seems to be doing it again.  It's when a first take off in the morning or after I've been idling at a stop.  The temp runs up to 220 range for about 5 seconds and then it backs down.  What could be the problem besides the gasket?

Answer
hey there i have the same truck and same problem. what i have found is the engine is getting air in the coolant somehow. to fix this problem i started the truck with the rad. cap off and let the engine warm up all the way your coolant level sould drop after the termostate opens and then top off the coolant level and cap.should take care of this problem let me know how that goes thanks
