Truck Repair: Knock Sensor and timing, gmc 1500, pep boys

1999 GMC 1500 5.3 engine, spark knock and knock sensor code, cn timing be adjusted or does knock sensor need to be replaced.

this one is really outside my area but im going to try to take a stab at it... very rarely will timing need adj.i would first look at gas are you running a low octane fuel if so try a better grade of fuel if not look at the sensor most autoparts stores like pep boys autozone can check these sensors for free and can save you the cost of a sensor that you cant return if you dont need it. and after that i would look at timing. timing on this truck is done trough the computer and changes need to be done trough a programer.so lets make the timing a last issue. on the bright side if you were to come into one of these programers you can adj. all sorts of thing to give you better proformance. thanks for the ? and let me know how things work out
