Truck Repair: 53 block, cummins, cracking

i have a 2000 cummins it only has 60,000 miles. i was going to start doing some upgrades,but this block cracking has me wondering now.should i figure that my block is going to crack sooner or later. i also heard that there was 2 different 53 blocks is there any truth to this.  thanks jeff

I really dont know the casting number of the ones that crack but not all of them do it.You figure out of 350000 engines a year & how many are cracking.I could look at the block & tell if it is the newer design or one of the older ones.I seen 25,000 mile engine crack & 150,000 mile ones.But like I said they dont all do it.I dont recall when the change came out.
