Truck Repair: Gear Removal from Cummins B series, wooden dowel rods, crank shaft

Question
Hello Cliff
I have a 90 model School bus with a Cummins B series engine. On the front of the engine there is an aluminum housing that has a metla front cover the housing is around the crank shaft fuel pump and camshaft gears it is cracked real bad where the air compressor bolts up to it and needs to be replaced. How can I remove the gear on the cam shaft ( I see no correct way to pull it off) so I can remove the aluminum housing? Also are there any other hints you can give me on doing this?
Thankyou for your time !

Answer
Well the best way is to remove camshaft. This requires a little extra work but even with the puller Cummins sell you still have to do it anyway. You will need twelve 1/2" wooden dowel rods to hold tappets up.You can purchase them at a harware store & cut to length. You will also have to remove fuel transfer pump on the rear that is camshaft operated.
