Question -
i have a 1987 ford L9000 with a 300hp L10 and an 8 speed trans. this engine seems very week to me as i have to run it to the govenor to grab the next gear from 6th and up when im loaded total vehicle weight around 60000lbs.it seems like i have no torque as it takes me litteraly a mile or better to get up to speed my concern was the timing was out as the engine sounds like your feeding a roll of quarters into the intake when accelerating under load.i was going to check/set the timming but im not familiar with the procedure.i removed the plug from the compressor drive housing and i barred the engine over untill the holes lined up but the pulley in front was at least 1.5 inches past the tdc mark?I have also turned the injector pump fuel mixture right up to get some more power,i replaced the air fuel ratio diaphragm as well because even with the fuel screw turned to the max there is no noticeable exhaust smoke under full load or cruise.my other truck has 3406b  400 hp with over 1,000,000 km on it and the difference seems like night and day

Answer -
Well the 3406 is a larger engine with probably alot more torque. The timing canot be adjusted with out major work.It is in the camgear key.I would try adjusting the valves & injectors first. Then have the fuel pump checked.

Answer
You use the 5-6 inlb "T" torque wrench.IF it is NOT STC,just get on a letter & start adjusting the inj first, then the valves. A= 1&6,B=3-4,& C=1&6.What ever letter you start on adjust the injector for the next cyl in firing order.
Valve clearance is 0.014 int & 0.027 ex.
       MARK          Valve          INJ
        A          2          4
        B          4          1
        C          1          5
        A          5          3
        B          3          6
        C          6          2
