Truck Repair: gas in a diesel truck, death warrant, ford f250

Question
my 2005 Ford F250 powerstroke was low on fuel this morning.  I pulled up to a gas station and without thinking I pumped $15 worth of gas in the tank.  Then drove the remaining 15 miles to work.  What do I need to do?  Have i ruined my truck?

Answer
Hi Jeff,
Possibly nothing yet, but get that gas out of there, and out of the filter and lines as soon as you can. Circulate some good diesel through the filter bleed screw with the fuel pump.
Just get as much as you possibly can out, then fill the tank with diesel, and hope for the best.
I would seriously consider dropping the tank to get it all out, and do it before you run it any more.

I don't know where you live, but $15. is only about 5 gallons, so it may have been diluted enough that it didn't do any damage at all, but I wouldn't recommend just filling the tank with diesel and just running it.

If it makes you feel any better, many older bulldozers actually had a carburetor, and actually started and ran on gasoline, and were switched over to diesel after warming up, so gasoline doesn't necessarily sign a death warrant for the engine.
