Truck Repair: New Cummins, valve cummins, fuel pumps

Question
I have a 97 1 ton dodge with the old 12 valve cummins in it. It has done great since I bought it back in November. I was currently on my way to Seattle, WA when the pump decided to go out on me in Bozeman,MT. I am thinking hard about putting a 24 valve in it and I was wondering what you thought about dropping a new 24 valve in this truck. I want to be able to chip my truck but can't with the 12 valve.

Answer
I would leave the 12V in it.Those both fuel pumps on the 24V go out regularlly & one cost $160 & the other $1600.But other than that they are the same size engine. The 24V will need the Dodge computor & wiring harness.I think they did put the 24V engine in 97s so other than the electonic parts everything else will work.
