Truck Repair: cummins deisel fuel pump, deisel fuel, cyl head

Question
I have a 2002 4 wheel drive 3/4 ton. My truck started cutting out at high speeds or when accelerating rapidly. I opened the fuel resivoir to check the filter and when I started it back the truck ran for just a minute and engine accelerated a couple of times on its own and then died. It will not start back. and no fuel is coming into the resivoir. Where is the pump located? Is it in the fuel tank or on the side of the engine? How can I test the pump to make sure it's not an electrical problem instead of a pump failure?

Answer
The ISB has an electric tranfer pump mounted below the fuel filter on the side of the engine. Those ISB ARE A MOTHER to get cranked bakc up after air is in the fuel system. What you do is "bump" the starter every 30 secs for like 4-5 times to prime it back up.Loosen a fuel line at the cyl head and turn it over until fuel comes out.Close off line & try to start engine.
