Truck Repair: F350 Odometer/speedometer, loose connections, guages

Hi there,

I own a 99 F350 7.3 Diesel PowerStoke. On one short trip the odometer and the Speedometer didn't work. When we stopped and shut it down and restarted both have worked fine ever since. My F350 book doesn't go into any details so i can't do any futher research.
any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

If it just stumbled, like a very short interruption of power to the engine, the gauges won't reset till restarted.
Did you happen to notice if the oil pressure and fuel guages also dropped?

I have a couple 99-2000 F pickups that have just a couple times done that, but they were gas/propane, and I have had some propane issues with them, and after having that worked on, the stumble has quit, and so has the speedometer problem.

You might check for loose connections, but they could be almost impossible to find, and be sure that was the problem.
