Truck Repair: Nissan 87 p/u- parking brake cable snapped, parking brake cable, drive shaft

Question
Following is a detailed discription and question in reguards to; broken section of 1987 Nissan p/u parking brake cable.
inside the vehicle the "L" pull handle of the parking brake had many clicks all the way up...until last setting and then a "pop"...seems the cable snapped underneath the p/u.

There has been many atime this ole brake system worked in almost the last 20 years, and as in all things wear and tear does it's part...
The broken cable location is under driver where the cable goes into an adapter/holder(snapping here) and then the cable takes off to another section- single connecting cable section and then onto a junction/holder where 2 cables go to the back portion of the rear bakes,so it looks like this parking brake system is really in three(3) separate connecting sections to make one system- that middle to last portion is intacked. Also another problem was when the cable snapped the bracket that held the system square now had slack and that bracket started rubbing against the " turning drive shaft". "fyi".. a piece of coat hanger helped hold this bracket back off this area so vehicle could still be driven without this rubbing and sound on drive shaft.
So the repair/replacement issue- is the beginning of the cable connected to the "L" pull handle inside to the first section replacement- the cable within a sheath/covering travels from the handle then goes through the floor near the excelerator, runs down under p/u to a connection area under the driver, this is the line thats needs to be replaced...
What is: (a) the availability of the replacement cable part for "that portion" ( L-pull handle to 1st securing portion).
Are parts standard or is there some sort of make-up of a cable to this partial area?
and (b)difficulty in replacement (scaled 1-10 as 10 being highly skill).
(c) is there a website explanining proceedure of replacement/schematic of parking brake system and brackets.
Thanking you in advance for any handy tips, detailed information and concerns on this repair.
Thanx,
DW

Answer
Hello DW,
I believe the part will need to come from a Nissan dealer. I haven't replaced one, but even though it is an 87, I believe they won't have any trouble getting one, and may even have it in stock.
Foreign car parts store may also.
The public library is worth a trip.
Go to the refference section, and they will have a shop manual for that truck. You can make copies of the needed pages if you need them.
I'd think about a 3, but that's just an estimate based on every thing else I have done to a Nissan.
