Truck Repair: iveco truck lighter outlet, battery jumper cables, portable ac unit

Question
can you tell me if the iveco trucks lighter outlet outputs 12 or 24 volts and if it outputs 12 volts is it because there is a resistor that reduces it to 12 volts from 24 i ask this because i need to use a portable ac unit that hooks up to the lighter outlet of iveco

Answer
The lighter outlet is more than likely the same as the chasis electrical system. If it is 12V,which most newer linehaul trucks are,its 12V.Usually the only trucks that are 24V are industrial engines in the USA or special applications like buses. If you dont know what voltage you have, simply check the battery jumper cables(the short cables connecting the batteries together) to see if the pos(+) cable goes to a pos.If so,its 12V.If the pos(+) goes to a neg(-) battery terminal, then its 24V.
