Truck Repair: Ford F-150 1993 wont hold a charge, ford f 150, ash tray


Question
We have put a new alternator, regulator, battery,wiring conectors ignigtion switch sylanoid,on it and it still won't hold a charge. We put a new starter on 1 year ago. My husband is going nuts. No one around here knows what to do. PLEASE HELP!!  Thanks.

Hello Michele,
Here is a link that should help.
basically, you remove one of the battery cables from the battery, and connect a test light in between the battery and the removed cable.
If the light lights, then something is drawing power.
You start pulling fuses, and unhooking things till the light goes out.
You need to have the door of the truck shut, or the dome light can light the test light.
Also, some things are on a timer, and you need to let the timer time out.

If there is a light under the hood that comes on when you open the hood, make sure it isn't staying on with the hood closed.
I would go out after dark, and look real close for light. Make sure you don't touch any door handles, cause that can turn on ignition switch iluminators, etc. Look in through the window at the radio, and the ignition switch, as well as the ash tray, and glove compartment to see if one of those lights is on.
You can then get into the truck, and open the glove compartment, and quickly feel the bulb to see if it is hot. Same for the under hood light.
