Truck Repair: 89 S-10 fuel system, fuel pump relay, jumper wires

Question
Hello! The expert can't answer your question
Hi. I have an '89 Chevy S-10 2.8L f.i. with 79K miles that is having problems getting fuel from the tank to the carburator. I have replaced the fuel filter(inline),the fuel pump(+strainer), the fuel pump relay and rubber vent and fuel lines. The truck ran for one day and then quit. I can hear the pump running, no fuses have blown, and still nothing.
I removed the line from the TBI from the fuel filter and Presto changeO! No gas!
Before the big fix, the truck would only start with starting fluid and would run fine.
Is it possible that this is an electrical issue and not mechanical?
Any ideas?

Answer
Hello Marcus,
If the pump was connected backwards, it would run backwards, but it never would have started for the first day.
I think the hose inside the tank that connects the pump to the top of the tank unit must have come off, or ruptured.
Looks like a return trip to the pump to me.
If you want to test it while it is outside of the gas tank, get a bucket of diesel fuel to submerge it in, and use jumper wires. The diesel is not nearly as flamable, and won't hurt anything.
