Truck Repair: Low Heat Output, heater hoses, air conditioning compressor

Question
I have a 97 Dodge Ram. After it snows I get very little heat from it. There is almost no air volume coming from the vents. I can hear the blower moving air, but very little comes out the vents. The vent door appears to switch to the correct place defrost, floor, etc. Both heater hoses are warm. Also the left side of the heater box, below the glove box is hot and the right side is very cold and frost covered. Only have this problem after it snows and below 25 degree air temps. I do not have a heated garage to work in. Any ideas on what I can check?

Answer
Hi Kevin,
I assume you are running the defroster.
If so, the air conditioning compressor is working, to dehumidify the air.
If it is slightly low on freon, or the evaporator is dirty, it will frost up, and prevent air flow.
I would unplug the wire to the compressor, or the low pressure switch, and see if that helps for the winter.
