Truck Repair: 2001 Chevrolet Fuel Filter, throttle position sensor, volt ohm meter

Question
Van,

Thanks for the response.  I had two follow up questions  - 1)Is it difficult to replace the fuel filter or are there special tools required(can it be done w/ out the help of a professional facility/mechanic?  2)  Can checking the throttle position sensor be done at home as well or is professional assistance needed?

Question -
I have a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1/2 ton and would like to know where the fuel filter is located.  Also, a troubleshooting question:  My truck starts fine, but when accelerating it feels like it is hesitating or a loss of power like it is struggling.  The truck will eventually pick up speed, but very slowly.  What would your guess be as to the cause?
Answer -
Hi Kirt,
The filter is in a clip on the inside edge of the frame rail, just about under the drivers seat.
It sounds like a good possibility of being the problem. But I would want to check the fuel pressure, prefferably before and after changing the filter, but not absolutely necessary.
Throttle position sensor could also cause those symptoms, but it is testable, so don't just get a new one.

Answer
Hi Kirt,
The throttle position sensor can be checked with a digital volt/ohm meter, which anyone working on late model vehicles should invest in.
The fuel filter can easily be changed in the driveway. Loosen the gas cap to relieve pressure from the tank.
Just needs common wrenches, unless it has the garter spring connection, in which case, the tool is about $4.00 I believe. But I think yours just uses wrenches.
Stuff a rag around the first fitting as you loosen it to catch any dripping gas. And don't change it in your garage if you have an open flame, like a water heater pilot light, cause a tiny bit of gas will drip out while changing it. You might even place a catch pan under it, like you would drain the oil into, but that probably won't be needed.
