Truck Repair: valve adjustment & smoke on C8.3, o clock, valve adjustment

Question
what could be the cause for smoke on a 1992 C8.3 210 hp engine and what is the proper adjustment procedure for valves and injectors?

Answer
The injectors have no adjustment. If it is a manual engine, the valve clearance is 0.024 exhaust & 0.012 for intake valves. What color is smoke & what RPM? To adjust valves: Remove rocker cover.Turn engine until timing pin engages(timing pin is under fuel pump).Remove pin from cam gear![If you are mechanically inclined, turn engine over slowly & watch #1 & #6 valves until one ovelaps]Mark dampner somewhere you can see it when you turn engine for next valve adjustment. We will say it is on #1 TDC. Adjust both valves on #1,adjust intake valves on even cyls & exhaust on odd.Turn engine one full turn until mark on dampner lines up again(360 degrees).Adjust both valves on #6,intake on odd & exhaust on even cyls.Install valve cover. If it is an electronic engine, adjust valves the same way except the exhaust clearance is 0.022.There is no timing pin on an ISC,have to take off the twist off cover in frt of the fuel pump. The gear has lines on it & frt cover has TDC mark in the 12 o'clock pos.To do #6 cyl, turn line to 6 o'clock.
