Truck Repair: 89 Chevy S10 Rear Brakes Locking up, auto tranny, rear brakes

Question
Dear Mr. Van,

I recently changed the brake shoes on the rear of my wife's 1989 Chevy S-10, 2WD, 4.3L V6, Ext Cab, Auto Tranny. After changing them the emergency brake was tighter then all of a sudden a couple days later started going all the way to the floor when applied. Then upon startup, with just the slightest pressure the rear brakes would lock up, after driving 2-6 minutes the problem would clear up and braking would be fine. However, after stopping and turning the engine off and going into a store for around 30 minutes the brakes would do the same thing again until it was driven for awhile and they would work normally. I did the self test where I pumped the brakes with the truck off and then started the truck and the brake pedal gave way like I suppose it should. can you please help me out with this? I don't want to have my wife driving around with brakes I may have goofed up. Thank you very much for your time.

Best Regards,

Barton

Answer
Hello Barton,
Make sure they are adjusted up correctly. You may have had part of one shoe cought on something, and when it came off, there is too much clearance.
I'd pull the drums off and just look at them again to see that all looks normal.
