Truck Repair: 2003 powerstroke PCM reprogram, ford motor company, ford f350

Question
I have 2003 Ford F350 with a 6.0 Power Stroke. Ford issued a recall to reprogram the PCM for" cold Driving Enhancement". However, it affected more than cold driving. Immediately after the reprogramming was performed I noted the following,
severe drop in fuel economy, rougher than before idle, and heavier exhaust smell. I complained several times to the dealer who did the recall but they were pretty ignorant about diesels. I took it to another dealer who said that they put it on the scanner and drove it and evcerything was OK. I requested they return the programming to it's original configuration and they told me this could not be done as the computer would not allow an older version to be written over a newer one. What can I do to get the old performance back from this vehicle? I have lost about 30% fuel economy with no noticable change in performance.

Answer
I have to say so far you have done the propper steps.  What the dealer said about the reprogramming is for the most part correct.  I would go back to the dealer that programmed it and complain one more time and if you get no responce ask for the highest person there, usually the owner will be there durring the week and explain the situation.  If you are still getting no-where then demand contacts with FORD that you can contact.  I would also suggest putting in a complaint with the BBB at http://lemonlaw.bbb.org/  and file it under the Auto Warranty Complaint section for both the dealer and FORD motor company. It sounds harsh, but the BBB complaint usually will get stuff done in a hurry, and if they solve the problymn, it does not hurt there rating.

I know where you are coming from, I have heard a few stories like this.  I would settle for nothing less that a complete fix on this!  If you need help finding contacts on this let me know(mhouser7@charter.net) My last word of advice is; do not attempt ANY fix yourself, or there claim will be that you tampered with the truck.  In a 30+ thousand dollar truck (new) you should get what you pay for, perfection!
