Truck Repair: Diesel fuel, last tank, cold canada

Question
Hi Mike, I have a 1973 detroit diesel in line 6 fire truck. I live in freezing cold Canada and have stored the truck outdoors for the winter. My question is would you have a checklist of things I have to do when I take it out of storage ? Do I have to replace the full tank of diesel with fresh fuel ?

Thanks

Pete

Answer
When you put the truck back into service I would do a normal service(oil, oil filter, fuel filter, ect.)  If the fuel only sat for 3 months or so it should be ok, but I would pull the plug on the tank for a second and drain any water that might of collected in the tank from condensation and add some fuel conditioner and top it off with fresh fuel.  In the future add some anti-jell/fuel conditioner to the last tank prior to parking the truck(if you don't).  Truthfully the old Detroit isn't too pickey on its fuel, they will burn most anything!  If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask, I will do what I can, but that engine is older than I am!(laughing)
