Truck Repair: toyota landcruiser diesel voltage problems, toyota landcruiser, voltage problems

Question
I have experienced voltage problems with my landcruiser sta. wag. diesel engine.  I first noticed my voltage guage would draw down signifigantly when starting.  It did start but sounded like the battery was weak.  I put two new batteries in and the problem continues.  The voltage meter reads quiet high (14-16 v.) while driving and when idleing it goes to below 12 v. and the charge lite comes on.  I also notice at nite the dash lites pulsing slightly.  Any advice?

Answer
I would suggest taking the Alternator off and having it bench testes at you local parts store, the regulator could be bad.  Also check to make sure all of your connections to the starter and all of grounds are good clean and tight (make sure to check the block ground).
