Truck Repair: 99 freightliner isc cummins, rod bearings, apperantly

hi cliff we recently bought a 99 freightliner with a cummins isc engine. It is showing engine
fault codes, the truck runs good. it also shuts
down on idle apperantly this is normal after a few minutes of idling. this truck is a car hauler & we need it to idle for a bit while loading the cars can we reset idle shutdown &
should we be concerned about fault codes? will
a repair & troubleshooting manual help with these
problems?  do you know where to obtain one of these mauuals? also engine has 240k what is life
expectancy of this engine? do we need to replace rod bearings? or anything else? thanks!!

We havent overhauled one yet for being worn out.The only ones we have rebuilt were due to dirt getting into the intake.You will have to get it hooked up to a computor to get idle shutdown removed or change the time & to see what fault codes you have.You can get manuals from any dealer or though a Cummins distributor.They are pricey & you have to get one for the engine & one for the electronics.
