Truck Repair: oil pressure, low oil pressure, pressure relief valve

Question
Hi there,
I have a 1993 chev z71 with a rebuilt 350 4 bolt main with about 50,000 km on it. I have been having low oil pressure when running hot. We put a oil gauge on it at it is below 14 psi when idle which i was told by a mechanic is to low. I was told might be that one of ther bearings have spun out or that the oil pump is faulty. If you can let me know what you think of this that would be awesome thanks.

Answer
Hello Jeff,
If a bearing was out of it, you would have low pressure when it is cold also.
If the pressure relief valve is faulty, it would also be faulty when cold.
I would suspect that you are just getting some clearance from wear.
You might try a different oil.
I can't tell you what the pressure should be, but I can say that I have had trucks run for years with much lower pressure.
