We drive a kenworth 2001 with a 460 Cummings I believe it is ISX model I do not know to much about engines. Well, it keeps blowing injectors it just blew another one this is the 5th in almost 3 yrs an in the cold it runs like shit. They replaced the fuel heater and they think that will solve some of the problem I will not find out until it gets cold again. When it is wet it seems to run bad also I do not think its in our heads there are 2 of us that drive the same type truck. I do not know if it is happening to someone else that has the same engine we have two trucks the same they were made a the same time they have just about the same problem give or take 2 or 3000 miles when they go. I never get an answers from my boss what it was that may have caused it I do not think they give him the reason do you know?
Thanks
Don D.

A 460 is probably a N14.Easy way to tell is the 3 red rocker covers.ISX has one head & one rocker cover and a massive fuel system on the side. The injectors going out is not uncommon. Are you using a good Cummins recommended fuel filter like a FS1000?Water is the nuber one killer of the fuel system.I dont have to worry about the cold down here in the south.Maybe a sensor malfuntion when it is cold, like water or intake showing higher temp than it is.

Question-
Is it common on these engines to have a vibration around 12 to 14 RPM it is kind of like it is skipping but only around 12 to 14 hundred rpm I really get it when I am backing up I have been told it is not anything to worry about? When climbing a hill at high speed 45-50 I get a knocking from the engine like and injector is knocking I fell it in the pedal and its around 14 RPM The truck run's great after that point. What do you say?

Answer
Might have an injector sticking under a load.really the only way to check it is under a load while cutting cyls out with a laptop. This is easier to do wit ha loaded trailer than a dyno.A chasis dyno is very noisy and real hard to tell which one it is.
