Truck Repair: Turn Signals dont work, turn signal flasher, chevorlet

Question
My dad has been fixing up his 1980 Chevorlet Scottsdale 10. I have helped him rewire the entire light system, and it has a new switch in it. The steering column ended up being a 1982 model, so it isn't an 80 switch, but brakes, taillights, hazards, and every other light works except for the signals. Everything worked with the old switch, except the signals, so I'm kind of wondering what could be wrong. The rewireing didn't affect the old switch operation or the new one, but alot of corrosion was removed. No one seems to have anymore idea's. The truck has been sitting for a year, and just recently started moving again - no box or support for lights, but has everything mounted on powdercoated braces with oak box now. Please help us figure this out so we can get the truck driving around again - not even the dealers mechanics have ideas - or the parts store specialists!
Thanks,

Answer
Hello Arthur,
Let me first say that if the hazzard lights, the brake lights, and the tail lights work, then ground isn't the problem.
I would say you need a new turn signal flasher, which is a different flasher than the hazzard flasher.
The turn signal fuse, or related wireing could also be the problem, but not the wires to the tail lights, since they already have been eliminated.
Now, the brake lights, tail lights, and hazzard lights don't operate thru the ignition switch...they will operate with the key removed.
But the turn signals require the ignition switch to be on, so there is another possibility...the accessory connection from the ign switch. Check the accessory fuse, and the switch.

Good luck,
Van
