Truck Repair: Valve Adjustment, cummins engine, tdc mark

Question
I have a 2002 model 2500 dodge ram with a isb 5.9 Cummins engine. What is the proper procedure for adjusting the valves.

Answer
On the ISB engine, remove the cap in the frt cover in frt of the fuel pump.remove the rocker cover bolts. The rear bolt will not come out.It will be left in the rocker cover for removal & installation. There is the a TDC mark on the frt cover & a line on the fuel pump gear.turn the line either at 12 oclock or 6 oclock position.Intake vavles are 0.010 & Ex valves are 0.020.You will need a 9/16 or 14 MM wrench for lock nut & 5 MM allen for screws. When at 12 oclock adjust exhaust vavles on 1,3,&5 cyl.Intake on 1,2,74.Turn line to 6 OCLOCK & adjust exhaust on 2,4,& 6 cyl.Adjust intake vavles on 3,5,& 6.
