Truck Repair: fuel pump 89 jimmy, oil pressure switch, electric fuel pump

Question
my repair manual states that the fuse for electric fuel pump is in the engine compartment. i cannot locate it. i'm trying to avoid taking the tank off to see if the pump is broke and if so replace it. i hear no whirring when the key is on. no fuel is getting to the end of the lines .i replaced the filter. i'm sure that fuel is my problem. my question is,where can i locate the fuse? or do i have to take the tank off to test this pump?   1989 jimmy s15 2.8l.  thank you.

Answer
Hi Roger,
I would not take the tank off to check the pump.
The fuse is probably in a fuse block, either under the hood, or at the left end of the dash. Fuse #9 sounds right, a 20 amp, but your owners manual has a chart that tells what fuses protect what systems.
Before dropping the tank, you should be able to get to the wire connectors near the tank. Check for battery voltage getting to the gray,(probably), wire.

There is also a fuel pump relay, as well as an oil pressure switch, both of which send power to the fuel pump. But both get power from the same fuse, probably that #9, in the instrument pannel fuse block, near the drivers end of the dash.Good luck,
Van
