1997 Chev truck 4x4 305 ci, after sitting overnight or couple days, truck will not start easily. Must crank on it for several seconds, 5-6 times then it will start. Sounds as if it may be flooding out slightly. When started and driven, then you stop for couple hours it starts and runs fine? Only after sitting for some time is it hard to start. It usually sits all week then dont want to start easily on the weekend. I have not replaced plugs or anything. Tks for everything!

Hi R.
Sounds like the fuel may be draining back down into the tank. Try turning the key to run, without cranking the engine, and see if the pump in the tank runs. Might do it a couple times till you hear a difference in the sound. Then see if it will crank.
Good luck,
Van

Didnt seem to make a difference, I heard the pump and followed your instr. and seemed to act the same, any more ideas? "Choke" could'nt be sticking could it? These newer engines give me headaches! Guess I will replace plugs and start with easy stuff like fuel filters etc. Can the "computer" tell whats wrong if I take it to a diagnostic tester?

Answer
Hi R,
You don't have a choke, but you have fuel injection.
Try the tune up, and also some injector cleaner in the gas tank.
There are some problems that a computer will not check for, and lack of fuel pressure is one of them. But it may be something that would store a code, although that should make the check engine light come on.
