Truck Repair: hub removal 4wd front, needle bearings, axle shaft

Question
i am trying to replace my rotor on front passenger side of my 86 f-250 i dont know how to get the 4wd hub off?

Answer
I believe after the outer part of the locking hub is removed, there is a large snap ring inside the outer circumference of the hub. You may need to push the locking hub in about a quarter inch to get the ring out.
May also need to remove a smaller snap ring on the end of the drive axle shaft.
Then all the rest of the locking hub comes out, to allow access to the wheel bearing retaining nuts.
Of course the caliper must be removed, and the hub and rotor all come off the spindle.
When you are that far in, it's a good time to remove the spindle from the knuckle, and check and lubricate the axle shaft needle bearings inside the inboard end of the spindle.
Good luck,
