Truck Repair: OBD2 Codes, ford f 150, ford shop

Question
Van,

I have a 1999 Ford F-150 4x4 V-8 and the codes reads P-1507 something to do with the idle. What does the code really mean and what would be the correct repair or probable repair? The Ford dealer service department will not give out this info unless they test it. Isn't that illegal? I appreciate your help.
Andy

Answer
Hello Andy,
It is not illegal for them to not give you information. You can go to the public library, refference section, and read all types of manuals. They should have the Ford shop manuals for that truck.
Most aftermarket scan tools, to read those codes, have a list of what the codes refer to.
An important thing to keep in mind, though, is if a code says oxygen sensor rich, just for an example, that doesn't mean the oxygen sensor is bad. It may be working perfectly, and the rich reading is due to something like a fouled plug allowing unburned fuel to go to the exhaust.
The codes just help point in a direction, and then you need to use that information, in conjunction with other readings, and symptoms to take you to the area where further tests are needed.
I looked thru my collection of manuals, and just don't happen to have one that covers those codes.
But a Mitchell Manual covering that year should really help you out.
Good luck,
Van
