I have a partially restored 1979 VW Convertible Karmann Super Beetle.  Great tires, new paint, new battery, great interior/exterior, new top, new pans, recently rebuilt engine.  I bought it with all of this work done thinking I would become "Mr. VW Man" and be able to do my own repairs.  As little things have started to happen, I'm finding out I don't have the patience or the knowledge for the repair work.  I'm trying to decide if I made a mistake or if I should just bite the bullet, buy a book and hang on.  Any input you have would be appreciated.  Thank you for your time.

Answer
old cars break and need fixed, they are not always reliable, and never will be good as new.  Trust me when I say this!!  That said, part of being an old car guy is the fixing and tinkering and learning.  Spending a day under a car is rewarding for some , and for some it is not.  You have to have the resources, and the right tools.  The learning part is self motivated.

Soooooooooo, if you dont fit the picture of an old car guy, then ownership of an old car can get frustrating and expensive.

BTW - the VW is a great car to learn on , pretty basic and a lot of forums out there for help
Good luck, sorry it took so long to answer, for some reason I could not access server
