Vintage Cars: 50s safety design car, stout scarab, war step

Question
I was at a car show in the late 50's or early 60's that displayed a unique auto that was touted to be designed expressly for the safety of its passengers.  It had a single center driver's seat, a bench for two or three behind, but seemed to be a two-body articulating vehicle, perhaps with the engine in the rear section.  It had lots of glass, very rounded, and the driver may have even been elevated like in his own cockpit.  Any ideas?

Answer
That almost sounds like to Stout Scarab from the late '30s, except for the "articulated" part. I remember seeing a photo of something like that a number of years ago - it was a custom job done by a single individual, and I seem to remember that some of the components were made out of a post-war "step down" Hudson. If I can find the photo, I will send you another email.
