Vintage Cars: Mercedes mirror adjustment, 1983 mercedes 380sl, mirror adjustment

Question
Hi Ron,

I have a 1983 Mercedes 380SL and I'm having a problem trying to adjust the passenger side mirror.  The motor works fine but I need to do a coarse adjustment of the mirror so it's within the range of the motor adjustment.  How can I physically move the mirror so it falls within the range of the motorized adjustment?

Thanks for volunteering your time.

Answer
if the motor is not moving the mirror at all then the conenction on the back may have slipped and will need to be accessed to correct,if it is moving it some , you  may try to move it manually inward and then use the adjuster in the same direction until it reconnects with the screw jack. If that does not work , you will have to remove to look for the issue, it is usually the motor connection to the mirror , The mirror pops off by using a sturdy, wide-bladed (WIDE-BLADED, like 2") wedge from the outside edge of the assembly, If you use a narrow tool (like a screwdriver) you will probably break the mirror, and they are expensive. Note that I wrote, "pop". I would remove the assembly FIRST and do this on the floor, so that you don't drop/break the mirror!

Good luck
