Vintage Cars: 1983 mercedes 380SL, shift linkage, great shape

Question
i am looking at this mercedes. 93,000 miles. mechanically looks and sounds good. body is in great shape but seams to have alot of play in the shift lever when shifting from park to drive...do you know what this is and what else should i look for prior to a possible purchase? thanks.
k

Answer
could be as simple as the bushings in the shift linkage or linkage adjustment
.If the motor mounts are collapsed the shift linkage must be adjusted.
service records are a must and the 83 model had a single timing chain and is a real issue.  The 83 is actually the least desirable of the SL's , underpowered and the chain issue.  Ask to see if it has been upgraded to double chain
