Vintage Cars: Mercedes SE Coupe, mercedes classic center, vin information

I'm presently looking for an older Mercedes SE 1966-1970. I'm concerned that with such a long history a car could have been stolen in the past and moved from state to state etc. Do you know of a source that can search VIN numbers back to the time of the first owner?

Mercedes Classic Center may be able to help, but most states, if it has been a registered vehicle will have the records by VIN. You might be able call law enforcement or the DMV with the VIN information and see if they can make certain this vehicle has not been reported as stolen.
You need to go to the county or city clerk to check it out.
CARFAX can trace any VIN< of course there is a small fee
