Vintage Cars: Head gasket, head gasket failure, coolant temp

Question
Follow up. The car is a 1997 E320 w210. Does leak oil for I have the spot on the ground where I oftenly park and have to top off oil about once a month. Unfortunatly I don't exactly remeber what he specifically said had to be re-fitted or adjusted. I do know that he said it was a bio-degradable seal.A friend of mine had a 1998 and got a similar answer, which now putting two and two together sounds more like he's giving us the run-around just not to do the job since it's not as easy as replacing the valve cover seal. I will ask again.
