Vintage Cars: Head gasket seal, gasket seal, head gasket

Question
Hi Ron, how's everything.                                         You,ve helped me in the past with a 1970 w114, now I'd like an opinion on a E320. The car obviously runs sweet and has 125,000 miles. I did notice an oil leak and could'nt see anything around the valve cover. Took it to my maintenance MB guy and he told me it's the head gasket seal and that when I decide to do the job I should go ahead and re-do some valve adjustments and so forth with a cost of about $2000, since it's preventive maintenance. The car is great and I know to me it's money-worth doing, but does it really need to be done?             Thanks Al.

Answer
some of the  e 320 has a known head gasket issue that shows up around 80K, sometimes sonner if the wrong coolant is used , something about inferior gasket.  In any respect IF it is a head gasket then I would get that fixed for sure.  But you said oil - head gaskets dont leak oil , but fluid.  You are sure it is not a head cracked?
WHat year and I may be better able to help.
Most of the later 320's had hydrolic valves so not sure what he wants to adjust
