Vintage Cars: w114 - just cant keep it running, david bosch, fuel starvation

Question
QUESTION: Hi there,I have 1973 280ce - M110 engine in it. Recently put new ignition amp in it and set up the timing. It fires and starts but dies almost instantly. It sounds like fuel starvation but there's plenty getting there so i wondered about the pressure and fitted a new pressure regulator - matching bosch numbers.I'm really lost on what to do now? i really thought the pressure reg was my final obstacle. Any ideas? Its a little wet around the pump?could this not be putting enough pressure into the system? Many thanks in advance, Regards, David

ANSWER: It sure sounds like fuel delivery issue, or lack of spark after start ( ignition coil - the right one blue??)
But

You could have a malfunctioning cold start valve letting raw gas into the cylinders. Try disconnecting it. Also I would look into a sticking float or inlet valve, or possibly a plugged fuel return line
I would set the timing to 10 degrees BTC with the vacuum line to the distributor disconnected and plugged. Try that setting
Some of these early electronic fuel injections use a manifold pressure sensor with a hose connected to the intake somewhere. If this hose is loose or damaged and leaking, it may cause the control unit to create an over rich condition, flooding the engine.

Let me knwo if you have already looked at these issues or what you find when you do.  I will continue to do some research
Ron

QUESTION: hi Ron, thanks so much for your quick reply. I think the coil is the right one, do you have any more info on it? part number maybe?
Ill try plugging the vacuum line and ill try disconnecting the cold start but what i forgot to mention was i disconnected the return pipe the other day and clamped it up and it revved and idle ok, this is why i thought the pressure reg was the problem. does this make a difference to your thoughts? thanks alot for your help so far, ill do as above and speak again. much appreciated, David

Answer
BOSCH Part # 00027

if it runs with the line clamped then you must have a restriction downline or something that is giving it back pressure. Have you pulled the line and cleaned it out with compressed air, all the  way to the tank.  The inlet into the tank is small, I have seen crud in tanks completely plug it up

Let me know
