Vintage Cars: mgb, morris garages, rubber bumpers

Question
what does MGB stand for? also how can I tell if my car is original

Answer
MG is from Morris Garages, which started in Oxford in the mid-1920s. The MG T series ran from the 30s through the mid 50s, up to the TF in 1955. Then the MGA was built, based on BMC's B-series engine. The twin-cam version of this is a nice car, but very rare. When the MGA was pensioned off in the early 60s, the MGB was brought in. Engine was now up to 1800cc, and the car had modern conveniences: wind-up windows, etc. In its early days, a really nice car. In the 70s things went awry with US regulations: emissions regulations reduced horsepower, and collision regs brought in the rubber bumpers and raising the height of the car...downhill from there on.

Re. authentication, try http://archive.heritage-motor-centre.co.uk/exhibitions_heritage_certificates.htm...

You will need the chassis (VIN) number, and the engine number will help as well. I think it should be stamped on the front left side of the engine block, below the exhaust manifold.
