Vintage Cars: 1926 Model R Hupmobile, old cars price guide, radiator shell

Question

Side view
I have a 1926 Model R Hupmobile.  It is in I would say good condition.  The body has some rust spots but the interior is in pretty good condition.  It will run.  It does need to have new wiring eventually but is in running condition.  It is definitely not just a parts vehicle.  I have attached images so you can see the condition.  I just want a ball park of what it could be worth.  I have looked and looked and cannot find a sight that can tell me a guess of the value.

Answer
This seems to be a very nice looking car, although I could only see one photo on the question. Just as an FYI, the Model R was discontinued in 1925.

The rust spots will definitely have an effect on the value of the car, as will it's non-standard color (which is quite attractive, by the way!!).

Also, how long the vehicle has sat unused will also affect the value - if it hasn't been driven in several years, there will be many things a new owner will have to address prior to driving the car. On this subject, I speak from experience!!

A top flight Model R touring car, a '24 or '25 R-Special Touring in concours condition will fetch somewhere in the low to mid $20s. Your car does not appear to be highly optioned (single wiper, no bumpers, standard headlights, no spotlight, painted radiator shell), so the value would be slightly lower.

I would estimate that a running, driving car in this condition with the few issues you've identified would fetch somewhere in the $8K to $14K range. I'm being a bit conservative with the pricing, because it's really tough to estimate a price without getting a close look at the car. The values I'm using as a guideline are approximate from the Old Cars Price Guide magazine - perhaps the Gold Book might help as well. I am estimating that the condition of your car is a 3 (1 being concours condition), which is a very nice condition driver. These values in general tend to be 1/2 to 1/3 of a #1 condition car.

Please contact me at RBOBERJR@YAHOO.COM - I would like to see more pictures of the car, and to have more detailed conversations with you.
