Vintage Cars: Help identify this car, gray paint, brightwork

Question

Dads old ride
Hi,
Could you help me identify what kind of car this is. My father owned it in 1950.
Thank you,
Steve S.

Answer
It's a 1941 or 1942 Hudson, probably the basic or mid-level model as far as the "good-better-best" thing goes with cars of the 40's.  I'd need to see the front end to know which year it actually is.  From this angle, the two years looked exactly alike.  One of the very last 1942s from ALL manufacturers to roll off the assembly line was a '42 Hudson, but by then the government decreed that only the bumpers on cars built after January 1st, 1942 could be chrome, and all other brightwork had to be removed or covered up (some people referred to these as "blackout" cars).  It's hard to tell from the photo if the rest of the chrome trim had the customary gray paint over the strips running down the side, or if the chrome is just dull from age.
