Vintage Cars: 88 Mercedes, 560 SL, daimler benz, first car

Question
I had an '88 560 for about 5 years that I LOVED. A very small amount of acceleration and that car would be gone in a flash. Last year I got another '88 560 ( lower mileage ) and I think it responds somewhat sluggishly. My mechanic has checked it and says there's nothing wrong with it. Were different engines used? Was there a foreign engine and one sent to the US? Any thoughts you have would be appreciated. Lena     ps...Why do some Mercedes have the Daimler insignia on the front windshield and some don't?

Answer
alas all 88 560's were created equal, however I suspect modifications were made  on you first car to give it more power, hard to say. for instance a slight increase in timing would give it more get up and go.  It really takes a mechanic familiar with vintage MB's to fine tune these ol cars. Euro MB's had some minor modifications that could have increased HP , but not that much.  The 560  is a great engine ,solid performer
The Daimler -Benz stickers were on all the cars shipped to the states, some have been removed from the cars by owners, some have simply faded away.  They are available from the dealer
